Todd & the Fox

Todd and the Fox is a musical vessel through which Todd Eric Lovato explores narrative songwriting rooted in groove, character, and storytelling. Todd is a Santa Fe–based songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. As Todd and the Fox, Todd and co-founder Erik Sawyer have performed music throughout the Southwest and beyond, including appearances as far afield as South Korea. 

The band’s music moves comfortably between playful and dark. Songs often explore unusual historical moments, strange characters, and the odd corners of everyday life — from the 1847 assassination of New Mexico Governor Charles Bent to foreign exchange trips gone wrong, red foxes, anthropomorphic exotic cat dancers, and the uneasy relationship between mental illness and genius. Alongside this material, Todd and the Fox has also released a collection of children’s songs, showing another side of the project’s storytelling and humor.

Todd and the Fox features a cast of accomplished New Mexico musicians. The current lineup includes Lovato on electric banjo and guitar, Erik Sawyer on drums and percussion, Brian Nelson on bass guitar and lap steel, and Bryan Highhill on trumpet and keyboards.

Todd Lovato is a five-time New Mexico Music Award winner.
